The past week has seen quite a bit of volatility, which started with the Bank of England failing to taper bond purchases. This sent the British pound plunging, and of course, had a bit of a “knock-on effect” around the world. On Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the United States reported a better than anticipated jobs figure, as 531,000 jobs were added last month, compared to the expected 450
A relatively quiet week ahead on the events front, following last week’s excitement. This week we have the GDP coming out of the UK. We have CPI data giving us a picture of inflation from both the US and China, and we also have the German ZEW reading. In terms of corporate earnings, pharma giants Merck and AstraZeneca are reporting and fashion companies Burberry and Ted Baker.
